Mental Health Initiative conducted by Uniquely Gifted Organization
On November 30, 2024, Mathari Hospital had the honor of hosting a mental health initiative organized by the Uniquely Gifted Organization. The event was designed to promote self-care, wellness, and mental health awareness among the hospital’s patients. It provided an invaluable opportunity for grooming and care, while also underscoring the significance of mental health in overall well-being.
As part of the initiative, patients were offered professional grooming services, including haircuts, nail care, and hair grooming, all provided by skilled volunteers, including students from Carenic Beauty College.
In addition to these services, Madam Sheila Lugaliki, leader of the Uniquely Gifted Organization, organized interactive sessions aimed at fostering a warm, supportive, and engaging environment for the patients. These sessions created opportunities for the patients to connect with one another and share experiences in a positive, empowering atmosphere.
The success of the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of a wide network of partners and volunteers, ensuring a seamless and impactful experience. Dr. Victoria Wamukhoma, Head of Clinical Services at MNTRH, expressed her appreciation for the organizers and emphasized the importance of ending the stigma surrounding mental health in society.
Over 70 patients benefitted from the grooming and wellness services, with many expressing a renewed sense of care and well-being following the event. The positive impact of the day was evident in the smiles and gratitude of the participants.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Carenic Beauty College for their partnership in this initiative and to the students who generously volunteered their time and expertise. In her speech, Madam Sheila Lugaliki also acknowledged the contributions of all partners, volunteers, and donors more specifically to OLEA Africa whose support made this event a reality. She called upon sponsors and individuals of goodwill to join her in continuing to bring smiles to the faces of those in need.
Mathari Hospital remains committed to supporting mental health and enhancing the overall well-being of our patients. We look forward to continuing such initiatives and expanding our efforts to reach all wards, ensuring that every patient has access to these valuable services.
